Hello from the Faubion Bulldog Mathematician Classroom! I’m thrilled to be back here at Faubion for another year, and I’d like to welcome each and every one of you to our exciting year! I’m Michelle Ackron, and I teach both 7th and 8th grade math, a math support class, and a math enrichment (and stay tuned for 8th grade advanced algebra). It is my personal goal to make a personal connection with each of your students to ensure growth this year in math. It has been a true pleasure to get to know each new and returning student so far this year. We’re already deep into learning in the math classroom. 7th graders have started a unit to deepen understandings of multiplying, dividing, adding and subtracting rational numbers. 8th graders are currently strengthening their integers to ensure a stable foundation for our first algebra unit. I can already tell this will be an amazing year of learning and fun.
Homework
Starting next week, be on the lookout for a week-long homework assignment. Students will receive it on Monday and it will be due on Friday each week. Students should begin thinking about time management and when works best to complete the assignment, with the goal of earlier in the week so they can ask me questions if necessary.
Grading Policy
Students will regularly participate in assessment activities, including quizzes, tests, group activities and projects. You can usually expect at least one assessment per week to be uploaded to Synergy. Students can access their grades using StudentVue or ParentVue online, or grades will regularly be posted in class. Students are responsible for keeping up with their current grade, and doing any necessary make up work. Anything graded can always be retaken for a better grade! I’m interested in student growth of a certain concept, so if a student can prove proficiency at any time, I will adjust their marks as necessary. Students have already received their first quiz grade. Be sure to ask your student how it went, and if they need to work toward improving that first grade. Faubion uses proficiency grading marks - please see the key to understand marks. Keep in mind a student must have a PR or HP to be passing a class.
HP – Highly Proficient
PR – Proficient
CP – Close to Proficient
DP – Developing Proficiency
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at any time with questions, concerns, or stories you’d like to share. I love hearing from you! Also, mark your calendars for our Curriculum Night, September 28th.
